While the late 1960s marked a transitional period for Martin, with sporadic specification changes, it also represented the twilight of a golden age when rare woods—now virtually impossible to obtain—were used generously.
This instrument is a true gem that fully embodies the unique charm of vintage Martins, and as a specialty shop, we confidently recommend it.

The top has developed a deep amber patina over the years and is beautifully marked with the fine weather checking characteristic of vintage instruments.

The sides and back are crafted from exceptionally dense, top-quality mahogany that far surpasses even the finest modern woods.

While mahogany is often associated with characteristics such as “warmth” and “midrange,” this particular instrument delivers a firm, resonant attack and clear definition.

1967 marked the final period of T-bar truss rod use, and since this instrument also features a T-bar, it can be considered a key element in shaping its sound.
What emanates from the soundhole is a superb vintage tone that can only be achieved by an instrument that has undergone over 50 years of “aging.”
It masterfully embodies the “dry, toasty resonance (woody tone)” unique to the D-18.
