BOURGEOIS / 1996 D-150 Custom
We have received a rare specimen from 1996, shortly after Dana Bourgeois—a contemporary master luthier—launched his own brand.
This D-150 Custom debuted as the brand’s flagship Dreadnought during its early days, when the brand was still brimming with passion.
The first thing that catches the eye is the striking presence of the exquisite Brazilian rosewood—known as “hacalanda”—used on the sides and back.
It is a work of art crafted by nature over hundreds of years, exuding a one-of-a-kind character that can never be replicated.
Furthermore, the top is adorned with Adirondack spruce, reminiscent of the expensive pre-war vintage instruments.
As is characteristic of Bojoa instruments from this era, the finish shows signs of clouding in various places on the body.
However, please do not judge this instrument by its appearance alone.
It harbors such overwhelming tonal potential within that you’ll soon stop noticing those imperfections.
It is a sublime sound—one that can only be produced by the finest Brazilian rosewood—capable of silencing even the most discerning players.
As the high frequencies, with their glass-like brilliance and a touch of alluring sheen, fill the space, the robust, core-filled, and resilient low-midrange—characteristic of Adirondack spruce—powerfully envelops the player.
The clarity of each individual note is overwhelming; no matter how vigorously you strum, the sound never becomes muddled, and a profound sustain—as if the entire hall were resonating—lingers in your ears indefinitely.
From the explosive volume of flatpicking to the delicate, plucked nuances of fingerstyle, this guitar possesses exceptional responsiveness that faithfully translates every nuance of your emotions into sound.
Please be sure to try out this Players’ Condition Brazilian Rosewood guitar, which boasts such exceptional sound.
