Martin has released numerous Eric Clapton signature models.
Next year marks the 30th anniversary of their debut,
and with the 000-28EC still in regular production, this series has become one of the most beloved
in Japan.
With Clapton’s upcoming visit to Japan in 2025, that passion is sure to continue to thrive.

The “000-42 ECJM,” which we’re introducing here,
is a guitar that could be said to have been born precisely because of this deep-rooted popularity in Japan and the love of so many fans. The “ECJM” stands for “Eric Clapton Signature Model / Japan Edition / Madagascar Rosewood Sides and Back,” and it is a special, limited-edition instrument—only 100 units produced—crafted with meticulous attention to the choice of wood.

This 000-42 is the model (manufactured in 1939) that Clapton used on “MTV Unplugged,” and it is also the signature model that was first released in 1995.

True to the 1939 original, it features a wide neck (soft V-shape) with a 44.5mm nut width, scalloped X-bracing, Adirondack spruce, a long saddle, a tortoiseshell-pattern pickguard, and a mosaic backstrip.
And let’s not forget the old-style headstock logo.While the Style-42 features the so-called “vertical logo” with lavish use of abalone, this model—which pays homage to the Golden Era of the 1930s—boasts a simple decal logo. The persuasiveness and elegance born of this
simplicity are sure to capture the hearts not only of Clapton fans but of all Martin enthusiasts.

Although the Brazilian rosewood used in pre-war Martins has been replaced with rosewood from Madagascar—which has a climate similar to Brazil’s—the instrument’s powerful presence, accented by subtle black lines, evokes a vintage atmosphere that is truly captivating.

A truly exceptional instrument that speaks volumes on its own.
