[Features]
This is the CG Conn Constellation "36B," a small-bell model that has been used for many years by Tom Harrell, a leading trumpeter of modern jazz.
The Constellation is a model strongly associated with the powerful 38B, as exemplified by players like Cat Anderson and Maynard Ferguson. While the 38B has a large 130mm bell and a substantial weight, the 36B has a smaller diameter bell of just under 120mm.RecruitThe struts and other parts have also been made lighter, maintaining the core and density of the Constellation while bringing out a more agile response and nuanced expressiveness. Note that "Lightweight" does not mean that it is lighter than a typical trumpet, but rather it is a designation in comparison to the 38B.
The Constellation's defining design features, such as the gently curved wide wrap, the longer mouthpiece receiver, the Caprion leadpipe made from a unique material close to pure copper, and the multi-layer plated Electro-D bell, are faithfully retained. Furthermore, the combination of a .438-inch small bore and a small-diameter bell provides clear tonal definition and control.
Its sound is bright and full-bodied without being overly sharp, and deep without being too heavy. It has a light attack and responds smoothly to the nuances of attack and tone. Rather than forcing the sound out, the charm of this 36B lies in its ability to beautifully change its sound within the phrasing.
While 38B is a flashy, dynamic arrangement, 36B is a static constellation.
This is an exceptional piece, possessing refined beauty and a richness of controlled expression.
