This is a 1983 BOSS SD-1 featuring a NEC C4558C op-amp!
It features the asymmetric overdrive circuit inherited from the OD-1 and is equipped with a new tone control that allows for high-frequency boost or cut. Thanks to subtle circuit modifications, it offers a slightly higher gain and a more solid tone compared to the OD-1. It produces a sweet, mild distortion without dampening the subtle nuances of your picking.Although it uses the NEC C4558C op-amp found in the very earliest models, this is a relatively rare unit with a 6-digit stamped serial number and a Taiwan-made circuit board. Other variants include the JRC4558D, which was used around 1982, and the JRC4558DD, which was subsequently installed in most SD-1s. Additionally, this unit’s control knobs are screw-mounted, and the pots feature solid shafts. The SD-1 was manufactured in Japan until around the middle of 1989, after which production was moved to Taiwan.
