This is an early version of the popular ELK fuzz pedal, released in the mid-1970s as a Big Muff knockoff.
This model is modeled after the original BIG MUFF-π. In addition to this early model's "BIG MUFF SUSTAIN'A'R" designation, later models also feature "BIG MUFF SUSTAIN'E'R" lettering. Perhaps due to issues with the straightforward name, the model name was later changed to "SUPER FUZZ SUSTAINAR." Branding includes "ELK GAKKI CO.", "ELECTRO SOUND CO.", and unbranded (no labeling). We have also carried many ELK fuzzes in the past, and while the sound varies greatly depending on the model, this one's sound is rough, with ample pressure and thickness, producing distortion with ample sustain. The tone control is a standard high-cut type. This model uses NEC 2SA733 transistors, but other models have also been tested, including 2SC829, 2SA495, 2SA564, and 2SA564. Don't miss this opportunity to get your hands on this rare model, which has become extremely difficult to obtain in recent years.
*There are traces of adhesion (probably tape marks) on the housing, and the set screws have been replaced.
