Gibson / 1966 B-25N
— A B-25 from the narrow-neck era with a unique look
A natural-colored B-25, introduced as the successor to the LG-3, featuring a 14.25-inch soundboard and non-scalloped X-bracing.
The first thing that catches your eye when you see this guitar is the two large pickguards mounted on either side of the soundhole.
Starting in 1964, the specification changed from the previously used thin, brown tortoiseshell-patterned pickguards to thicker, reddish ones; however, the additional pickguard on the left side—though a different color—is also a thick type, as if to match the original specification.
As I examined the body, wondering, “Why did they add an extra pickguard?” a theory came to mind.
That was the damage caused by picking visible around the soundhole, near the pickguard, and on the fretboard surface from the 18th to 20th frets.
Despite its compact body, this model features X-bracing; unlike the ladder bracing found on the LG-1, it produces a crisp yet clean, expansive tone.
This suggests that the instrument was played with vigorous picking and strumming.
— The unique grip feel of a narrow neck
Starting around 1965, the nut width was changed from approximately 43 mm to a narrower specification of approximately 40 mm (or 39 mm on some individual instruments).
As a result, this guitar is ideal for a playing style that involves gripping the neck firmly to fret chords.
There is some paint peeling on the back of the neck due to years of play, but there are no rough edges where the paint meets the wood, so it poses no issues during normal use and you can play it with confidence.
— Plastic Bridge & Adjustable Saddle
This model features a unique airy feel and a crisp, snappy sound that sets it apart from slotted saddles.
It’s quite rare to find a plastic bridge that has been preserved in its original condition, rather than a wooden one.
Although there is a slight gap in the plastic bridge—a common characteristic of this design—it is secured to the bridge plate with four bolts (excluding the ADJ), ensuring it won’t come loose significantly, so please use it with confidence.
The B-25, featuring a double pickguard—a design rarely seen elsewhere—is the perfect choice for those who want to play a truly unique guitar.
Also, don’t overlook the fact that it’s a great value compared to Gibson B-25s from the same era.
If you’re looking for a genuine vintage guitar or want to strum a small-sized guitar, don’t miss out on this one!
