Taylor / 2001 Model 712
The 712 features a slightly smaller body shape known as the Grand Concert within the Taylor lineup.
While the body isn’t as large as a Dreadnought, it still delivers ample volume and presence.
The moment you rest it on your lap, its comfortable size allows your body to relax instantly, and the sensation that the music begins the moment you place your fingers on the strings is unique to this size.
It features a classic wood configuration: cedar for the top and rosewood for the sides and back.
The warm tone of the cedar emerges clearly without losing its definition, enveloped by the deep harmonics of the rosewood.
When you strum a chord, the sound remains clear, with beautiful separation between notes, and when playing fingerstyle, each note takes on a lustrous, resonant quality. The tone is not flashy, yet it is endlessly refined and lingers in the ear.
What makes this 712 special is that it does not have a built-in preamp.
While Taylor is strongly associated with the Electric Acoustic in Japan, the absence of unnecessary weight and electronics allows the entire body to vibrate lightly, resulting in a crisp, lively sound.
That sense of speed and clarity provides more than enough satisfaction, even without running it through an amp.
