A sophisticated, vintage-inspired look! 500/1 VINTAGE 63
Founded in Germany in 1887 by Karl Hefner, this is one of Europe’s leading and longest-established stringed instrument manufacturers. Building on its exceptional craftsmanship in classical stringed instruments, the company began manufacturing electric guitars and basses in the 1950s. The 500/1, released in 1956, gained worldwide recognition after Paul McCartney made it his instrument of choice.
This instrument is a 2004 500/1 Vintage 63, a faithful reproduction of the 1963 model—one of the most popular among the various vintage specifications.
It features a beautifully subdued, subtly faded finish. While it is in “player’s condition”—with missing pickguard and knob tops, as well as a cracked escutcheon—there is no damage to the wood, making it a guitar that can still be played at the highest level.
The string action is set to approximately 2.8 mm at the 12th fret. While there is no warranty on the neck, I believe this string action falls within an acceptable range for a violin bass.
The warm, mellow low end produced by the lightweight hollow-body construction is truly the signature Hefner sound.
