A rich, deep bass sound from the combination of a toaster and high gain! The modified 4003!
As the successor to the 4001, the 4003 has long been—and continues to be—a legendary staple of the Rickenbacker lineup. The neck binding, body binding, and triangular inlays give it a slightly rounded look, and it features the iconic “Rick-O-Sound” that Rickenbacker is known for.
This 1994 model is a modified instrument with a replaced front pickup.The original high-gain pickup has been replaced with a “Toaster” pickup, and the body has been routed to position the pickup closer to the neck. As a result, the pickguard has been replaced, as has the truss rod cover. (None of the original pickups, pickguard, or truss rod cover are included.) The routing was performed at a workshop in Japan and features an exceptionally meticulous finish.
It is characterized by a full-bodied tone with a strong, punchy low-end presence. The front Toaster pickup delivers a sound with ample low-end and a sweet resonance, while still maintaining a well-defined contour. Although the low-frequency component is prominent, the attack and the sparkling string tones come through clearly, allowing you to enjoy the three-dimensional sound unique to Rickenbackers!
