Explanation
IKKO MASADA / 2020 Model GA
【Demo Video】
IKKO MASADA is a luthier based in Fujisawa City, Kanagawa Prefecture. He studied theory and technique at the prestigious Robert Ben School of Luthiery in the USA. After returning to Japan, he worked in mass production at Maurice, gaining a deep understanding of quality and reproducibility. He then established his own workshop, adhering to a production style where he handles everything himself—from design and woodworking to finishing and final adjustments. Quality over efficiency, the player over trends. This philosophy is directly reflected in the instrument's tonal character.
This GA cutaway model features an original shape: while its maximum body width exceeds that of a dreadnought, a slightly tapered waist achieves both tonal balance and a comfortable playing fit. Once played, its rich volume and deep body resonance firmly anchor the space. Yet the sound never feels heavy, maintaining crystal-clear definition. In fingerstyle, the bass provides a solid foundation, allowing melodies to float naturally, while in lead playing, each note emerges with three-dimensional presence.
Moreover, there's a sense that the player's intent directly translates into sound. This realm is likely only achievable with a luthier guitar, where every detail—from wood selection to bracing carving and finish thickness—is meticulously adjusted by a single craftsman.
The body, featuring a Florentine cutaway, allows effortless access to the high frets, greatly expanding your freedom during solo playing. Visually, it combines sharpness with a sense of luxury, highlighting the presence of the high-quality wood used for the sides and back. Maple binding and a rosette are added, resulting in a look that, while not flashy, exudes a definite sense of refinement.
A purity of sound and responsiveness you'll never find in mass-produced instruments. Kazumitsu Masada's GA Cutaway isn't a guitar that judges your playing; it's an instrument that faithfully reflects your emotions.
