Gibson / 2014 Southern Jumbo TV BANNER
"TV" (True Vintage) refers to models that are reissues of Gibson's flagship models from the 1940s to the 1950s, which Gibson considers its golden age.
This guitar is a reissue of the Southern Jumbo with a BANNER headstock, originally produced between 1943 and 1945.
Although the Southern Jumbo debuted in 1942 as a higher-end model than the J-45, it wasn’t until around 1955 that it adopted modern specifications (such as the mother-of-pearl modern logo and crown inlays).
"ONLY A GIBSON IS GOOD ENOUGH"
In addition to the Gibson silkscreen script logo, the headstock features a BANNER design bearing the words “ONLY A GIBSON IS GOOD ENOUGH.”
This indicates that this model is a reissue of the BANNER headstock specification from 1943 to 1945.

The top is made of red spruce and finished in a two-tone vintage sunburst color.
The beautiful straight grain of the spruce is clearly visible through the finish.

While the Southern Jumbo from the Banner era featured a small pickguard, this model features a large pickguard.
Since large pickguards were introduced around 1955, the combination of a BANNER headstock with a large pickguard, as seen on this model, is a unique and interesting feature exclusive to the True Vintage series.

Mahogany is used for the sides and back.
While Southern Jumbos typically feature a black line down the center of the back, this model features only the mahogany grain lines, similar to the J-45.

The fingerboard is made of rosewood and features the double parallelogram inlays that are one of the hallmarks of the Southern Jumbo.
This decoration is a special inlay found exclusively on higher-end models.

The neck is made of mahogany.
It has a slim neck profile, providing a comfortable grip.

The bridge features an upper belly design and is fitted with a short saddle.
I speculate that the decision to use an upper belly bridge instead of a rectangular bridge—which suits this model with its large pickguard—was influenced by the 1955 Southern Jumbo, which was the first to feature short saddles on the bridge.

The tuning machines feature independent Kluson pegs.
The white buttons add a cool touch to the headstock’s appearance.
Additionally, a Gibson Custom Shop silkscreen is affixed to the back of the headstock.

[Staff Comment: Hoshino]

Reissues of the BANNER headstock are highly popular across all models.
With its understated look and a tone that’s crisp yet somehow full-bodied, this is a guitar that feels great to strum.
