Explanation
"A simple vintage reissue just isn't enough. I'm looking for a rare Goldtop that's truly unique and packed with attention to detail." Does that sound like you?
It would be perfect if it retained the traditional '57-style look while offering even better playability. Furthermore, if you’re serious about sound, you definitely don’t want to compromise on the pickups. But ultra-limited-run boutique pickups made by independent builders in the USA are hard to come by even individually, making it difficult to even try them out.
The 2012 Gibson Custom Shop Lee Roy Parnell '57 Les Paul Goldtop is the perfect guitar to fulfill your dreams.
This landmark first signature model embodies the meticulous craftsmanship of Texas-born blues and country master Lee Roy Parnell. Based on the Historic Collection, it appears at first glance to be a classic, understated '57 Goldtop without a pickguard. However, its hidden specifications reveal a true dedication to detail.
The highly playable neck retains the beautiful shape of the original, yet the edge on the G-string side has been meticulously rounded—a detail so subtle you’d never notice it unless told. There’s absolutely no visual disruption, and the comfortable grip is truly designed with the player in mind.
It features original Ron Ellis pickups made in the USA by a boutique brand. Furthermore, the pickup cavities have been routed as tightly as possible, demonstrating a thorough attention to detail even in the unseen areas.
The headstock features a Stinger design. The area around the serial number is also decorated, giving it a look that sets it apart from historic models and stirs a desire to own it.
The sound is grounded in a solid midrange while also featuring a clear, expansive high end, offering exceptional ease in expressing picking nuances and excellent attack. It encompasses a sound that’s powerful in the high end at the bridge position without sounding thin, a crisp and lively sound in the midrange, and a warm sound with beautiful harmonics at the neck position—making it versatile across all positions.
This is an ultra-rare model, limited to just 100 units worldwide. A Les Paul equipped with Ron Ellis pickups right out of the box is virtually unheard of on the market.
Packed with every feature players could ask for, this is truly the ultimate practical vintage reissue—designed to be played and heard. It’s a model we recommend not only to fans but also to anyone looking for a great Goldtop.
