Explanation
The pinnacle of boutique basses: Fodera's Emperor II Elite!
Fodera was founded in 1983 in Brooklyn, New York, by Vinny Fodera and Joey Lauricella. Vinny Fodera is also known as Stewart Spector's very first apprentice, and from the late 70s to early 80s, he crafted basses alongside Ken Smith. Fodera is a manufacturer whose excellence and high performance are guaranteed, beloved by legendary bassists like Victor Wooten, Anthony Jackson, Felix Pastorius, and many others. Furthermore, all Fodera Bass basses are fundamentally customizable, consistently delivering the highest quality to meet the user's exact specifications.
This instrument is the Emperor II 5-string model, a single-cut version of the Emperor bearing the "Emperor" name. The top features beautiful figured Claro Walnut, with Walnut also used for the back. The neck is a 3-piece maple through-neck construction, and the fingerboard is Rosewood.
It is equipped with Agular pickups, though these are likely not the original factory-installed ones. Since Agular pickups were originally an optional customization for Fodera, and the wood cover appearance aligns with that, this modification, while not factory-installed, is considered to follow the Fodera ethos.
Additionally, it appears a fretboard extension modification was once performed. There are visible signs of repair: a patch of rosewood filling where the fretboard end was cut, and a wood filler repair mark on the body surface. The repairs are very clean and barely noticeable up close, and of course, there are no functional issues.
The rich resonance of the low B string, characteristic of a single-cutaway design, produces an enveloping, deep low end. It boasts the crisp definition expected of a high-end instrument, with a finely detailed clarity across all frequency ranges and rich sustain. The sound is delicate and warm, reminiscent of a piano.
While there are traces of some modifications, this is an instrument that has been played with care. This Bass makes you think, "I want to find a place where this Bass can truly shine."
