Gibson / 2002 J-185
“A Jumbo-Style Guitar with a 16-Inch Body”
Compared to the 17-inch SJ-200 and J-200, the J-185 debuted with a slightly smaller 16-inch body.
Since only about 900 original J-185s were produced, it is considered a rare model.
This guitar is a reissue of the 1950s J-185 specifications.
—Beautiful figured maple that captivates every time you look at it.
The maple used for the sides and back—a hallmark of the J-185—features beautiful figured maple.
As you change your viewing angle, the three-dimensional grain shimmers and shifts beautifully.

The top is made of straight-grained spruce.
The body size, which is 1 inch (2.54 cm) smaller, offers exceptional comfort and playability.

A large tortoiseshell-patterned pickguard is used.
The rosette is a double ring design.
The fingerboard is made of rosewood, and the mother-of-pearl double parallelogram inlays shimmer beautifully.

The neck is a one-piece mahogany piece, characterized by its slim neck profile.
The slim neck provides a comfortable grip.

The rosewood upper-belly bridge is fitted with a short saddle, and the sides are decorated with Malta Cross inlays.
This specification also recreates the original J-185 from that era.

The small-sized headstock features Gibson’s modern logo and crown inlays, which enhance its luxurious feel.
The bell-shaped truss rod cover is a two-piece design.

KLUSON no-line tuning machines are used.
The gold housing and marble-patterned keystone pegs add a touch of luxury.

Models that recreate the look and ornamentation of the J-185—produced for only about eight years from 1951 to 1959—are highly popular on the market. This popularity stems not only from its appearance but also from its bright, responsive tone and dynamic bass, which create a truly unique sound.
Be sure to try it out while you have the chance.
