Eric Clapton, who has created such classics as “Tears in Heaven” and “Change the World,” is hailed as one of the world’s top three guitarists.
The Martin 000-28EC, released in 1996, is arguably his indispensable companion and trademark instrument for both his performances and tours.With countless fans influenced by him both in Japan and
abroad, the 000-28EC is also a guitar many aspire to own—and surely many have thought, “If only I could play those classic songs on a Clapton model…”

—A signature model packed with Eric Clapton’s personal touches

The 000-sized body is crafted from spruce and features an amber-colored finish that gives it the look of a vintage guitar.
In addition to the finish, it features white binding that accentuates the body’s contours, as well as herringbone trim.
Since herringbone is also used on the rosette, it’s clear that the design draws inspiration from the 000-28 models of the 1930s and 1940s.

The tortoiseshell-patterned pickguard further enhances the authentic look.

The sides and back are crafted from straight-grained Indian rosewood, and the
backstrip features a zigzag pattern.

The fingerboard is made of ebony, with diamond and square inlays shining against the black background.
These inlays are also characteristic of models from the 1930s and 1940s.
Eric Clapton’s signature is inlaid at the 20th fret.

Like the fingerboard, the bridge is made of ebony, but it is fitted with a short saddle.
Given that the 1966 000-28 (a Mike Longworth custom model)—the first guitar he ever owned—and the 1974 000-28, which he has owned since around 1976, both feature short saddles, it’s reasonable to assume he was influenced to some extent by these two instruments.

The mahogany neck—arguably this guitar’s most distinctive feature—features a slightly thick V-shape.
This neck shape is likely a key element of his playing style.
A strap pin has been added to the neck heel.

The headstock, featuring a rosewood veneer, is adorned with a classic Martin logo decal, and its angular shape is reminiscent of the 1930s and 1940s.

The tuning machines feature open-back pegs engraved with the Martin logo, and the butterbean buttons lend an authentic look.

The endpin hole has been enlarged.
While the standard diameter is approximately 7.5 mm, this instrument’s hole measures about 13 mm, suggesting it was previously used with a pickup installed.
For this reason, we also recommend this instrument to players who wish to install a new pickup and play it that way.

- While there are some minor scratches from normal use, the guitar is in excellent condition with no noticeable dents or major scratches.
- There is no muffled sound or buzzing, and it plays very well.
- String action at the 12th fret: 2.6mm on the 6th string side, 1.9mm on the 1st string side -
Saddle height: approx. 2.0mm–3.0mm -
New nut and saddle have been installed.
