The abalone shell inlays scattered throughout the guitar are so breathtakingly beautiful they leave you speechless. The body wood alone is rare, but with inlay work applied as if gilded with foil, this is a work of art that transcends even the highest standards.
The Adirondack spruce features a bearclaw figure, a clear indication that rare materials were used—as befits the Style-50, a special edition model. The herringbone trim and rosette are adorned with intricate abalone shell inlay work.
The pickguard also features vine inlays and is covered with a protective sheet to prevent scratches. The inlays, meticulously assembled from tiny pieces of abalone, are truly mesmerizing.
Brazilian rosewood, with its bold grain, is used for the sides and back, and is accented with purfling, a backstrip, and vine inlays that complement the rosewood. It gives the impression of a Brazilian rosewood canvas adorned with a frame of abalone shell.
The fingerboard is adorned with a beautiful “Tree of Life” design so intricate it almost conceals the ebony. Additionally, abalone inlays grace the sides of the fingerboard, making one wonder just how much time must have been spent on this fingerboard alone.
The ebony bridge features flower and vine inlays on both sides and the bottom. The bridge pins, positioned to rest atop the vines, are made of fossil ivory. Star sapphires adorn the tops of the bridge pins.
The neck is made of mahogany, and abalone shell inlays follow the contours of the fingerboard binding and the neck’s shape.
The heel cap is made of Brazilian rosewood and features an inlay of a single flower and vines.
The headstock, made of Brazilian rosewood veneer, is adorned with abalone shell around the perimeter and designed to serve as the culmination of the “Tree of Life” motif extending from the fingerboard, featuring a flower. The Martin logo is also lavishly inlaid with abalone shell.
The tuning machines are gold WAVERLY open-back tuners, featuring lily-inspired engravings that complement the inlay design without detracting from it.
The body end is also adorned with luxurious vine inlays, and the strap pin, like the bridge pin, is accented with a star sapphire gemstone.
The intricate decorations shine beautifully down to the finest details. Adorned with inlays depicting vibrant vines and blooming flowers—which will continue to shine even as time passes—this instrument exudes charm alongside its rich, resonant tone.

It is no exaggeration to say that the beautiful inlays on the “Tree of Life”—the top-of-the-line model—demonstrate the high level of craftsmanship at Martin. It produces a beautiful tone that makes you realize, “This is what a dazzling tone is all about.”
