Explanation
Martin / 1995 000-42EC First Year
[Featuring a demo video]
Released in 1995 as a limited edition of 461 guitars worldwide, this model marked Eric Clapton’s first signature guitar and is a rare first-year example.
The elegant, ornate finish inspired by the Style-42 is truly beautiful.
A hallmark of Clapton models is the V-shaped neck. It is a standard feature on all of his signature models and is a crucial element that supports his playing.
The label inside the soundhole bears his handwritten signature.
Two cracks at the top of the soundhole have been repaired; since patches (reinforcement plates) have been applied from the back, you can play this guitar with confidence.
Cracks have been repaired along the abalone inlays on both sides of the fingerboard end. Although there is some damage to the lacquer finish on top of the abalone, the area underneath is reinforced with bracing and a spruce reinforcement plate (common to both the 000 and 42 models), ensuring structural integrity.
There are signs of a neck reset at the neck heel. This is an effective method for repairing areas where the truss rod has limited effect, and it can significantly improve both playability and tone.
[Staff Comment: Hoshino]
As Clapton’s first-year commemorative signature model, the Style-42’s snowflake inlays, vertical logo, and decorative accents on the top give it a luxurious appearance. It produces a lustrous and rich tone.
