Gibson / 1993 Special Edition J-200
Staff Comment: Inoue

"A flame-maple J-200 from the days when the Bozeman factory was just getting on track"
The J-200’s original form, the SJ-200, first appeared in 1938.
A large body, moustache bridge, and pickguard with a teardrop pattern.
As Gibson’s flagship, its appearance remains unchanged to this day.
This is a special edition made in 1993.
In the first half of the 1990s, it was one of the guitars made at the Bozeman (Montana) factory, which Ren Ferguson was leading.
This was made during the period when the factory was beginning to gain recognition, and because of the quality of the materials and the careful craftsmanship, J-200s from this era are now attracting renewed attention.
What catches the eye is the plate on the back of the headstock.
On the black-painted back of the headstock, the words "Montana Special" and the date June 23, 1993 are engraved.
This unique detail indicates that it is a special edition.
The body has a Sitka spruce top, with Eastern flame maple back and sides.
The strikingly prominent grain changes appearance depending on the angle of the light.
The neck is a five-piece construction alternating maple and ebony.
Two black lines run from the head to the heel, and the outer maple pieces also include grain.
It is a guitar with many points worth seeing, even from the back.
The neck width is 44 mm at the nut, and the scale is 645 mm.
There is enough room between the strings, so it does not feel cramped whether played with a pick or fingerstyle.
The sound has a wonderfully clear outline, combining spruce top and maple.
And with the body’s jumbo feel, it has a strong sense of volume.
Even when played forcefully, the sound does not get muddy, making it dependable for backing a singer.
Comes with a hard case.
Please take this opportunity to consider this guitar, full of 1990s Gibson character.
