The Buzzard model, created by legendary The Who bassist John Entwistle and Warwick founder Hans Peter Wilfer.
Buzzard, meaning bird of prey. True to its name, its fierce looks leave a powerful impression.
In 1985, Hans Peter Wilfer received a request from John Entwistle to create a special Bass tailored to his playing style. They discussed John's ideas, brought them to life, and created design sketches.
This most unique model among Warwick's many offerings was released in 1985 and discontinued in 1995.
Revived in 2003, two years after John Entwistle's passing, it remains popular as the Bass that symbolizes John Entwistle.
This particular instrument is an original 1986 model.
Without accompanying spec sheets, it's speculative, but the body wood is believed to be zebrawood. The fingerboard is wenge.
The inlays are not Arabic numerals, suggesting it may have been a modified or custom-order piece.
The headstock is the larger pre-downsizing type. The bridge is Warwick's original separate bridge.
The pickup configuration combines EMG P-type pickups in both standard and reverse positions, creating an arrangement that clearly defines the low-string contour.
Controls are Vol/Bal/2Band EQ (stacked).
Its appearance is incredibly impactful. While the later redesign of the headstock to a smaller size makes sense for body balance, this is a one-of-a-kind instrument in the history of electric Bass!
