Explanation
Martin / 1982 HD-28 Custom Pre War Reissue
【Demo Video】
This is a reissue model of the pre-war D-28 ordered by Tokai Gakki, Martin's distributor at the time, around 1981-82.
The herringbone trim found on D-28s made up to 1947 is the defining feature of pre-war instruments. This is a point where the fine craftsmanship truly shines.
The inlaid tortoiseshell pickguard gives it a subdued, sophisticated look. This inlaid specification was standard until the 1980s, making it quite rare.
The diamond square inlay on the fingerboard recreates the specification used up to 1944. Since the regular HD-28 model at that time featured dot inlays, this demonstrates a genuine commitment to faithfully recreating the pre-war model.
The down-bow bridge features a long saddle. Since the HD-28 typically has a short saddle, the look is perfectly pre-war style.
The neck features a V-shaped profile. While the thickness is reduced, it still offers a solid, triangular grip that you can feel in your hand. A strap pin has been added to the heel.
Traces of adhesive can be seen where the celluloid was bonded to the body's tailpiece. This occurs due to differences in shrinkage between the wood and celluloid, but it is securely bonded, so you can use it with confidence.
This unit features an added contact microphone. We speculate the Morris CP-2 was chosen to output the instrument's natural sound by omitting a built-in preamp. It performs reliably as a ready-to-use solution for live performances.
