Developed by renowned luthier Nobuaki Hayashi—also known for his work with Atlantis—and the staff at Aria, the PE1500 was released in October 1977 and is considered a masterpiece among domestic original models. Aria subsequently released a diverse range of models, establishing the PE series as one of the company’s best-selling lines.

This PE-R80 is a model from the era when the now-defunct Matsumoku was manufacturing it. It features a three-layer body construction of maple/mahogany/maple, carved from a single block on both sides, characterized by a beautiful, flowing arched top and back.The neck is deeply set into the body and further secured with screws from beneath the pickups, resulting in a robust construction. It also features a smooth, heel-less cut, offering the high playability of a through-neck design. Thanks to the laminated body, the sound combines a strong attack with rich midrange, making it a sound that remains fully relevant even today, more than 40 years later. The pickups are coil-tap capable, making this a versatile model suitable for a wide range of genres.
