Today, we’re introducing the Tokai LS-200—a true gem that our consignment holder declares to be a Japanese treasure, meticulously crafted with extraordinary passion in pursuit of the ultimate Japanese Burst.
Its supreme wood quality and appearance are highlighted by a luxurious solid wood top and a cashew finish that exudes a unique depth and luster. The binding—which has a distinctly stronger yellow hue compared to the LS-150 and lower models—and the dignified gold Tokai logo radiate the aura of a top-of-the-line model. The pickups feature the Greco DRY-Z, a model coveted by fans of vintage Japanese guitars.
The front pickup is mounted in the opposite direction from standard—this is due to a difference in construction methods between Tokai (which, like the original Gibson, used a long drill bit to create wiring holes) and Greco (which used a router to create the pathways). Consequently, the Greco pickup could not be installed unless mounted in the opposite direction. This detail offers a glimpse into how closely Tokai adhered to the original Gibson’s manufacturing methods at the time—a feature that enthusiasts will find irresistible.
