"How can we maximize the vibration of an acoustic guitar's body?" Ovation's answer to that question was the "Adamas."
Seeking durability and acoustic characteristics unattainable with a wood top, they employed carbon fiber material originating from aerospace technology for the top, encasing it within a unique fan bracing structure and a Rila-code body. The Super Adamas 1687 truly embodies this innovation.
This particular instrument is a 1978 Super Adamas 1687-7 Beige, an early specification model. Among existing Adamas models, this is one from a particularly rare era.
First, its appearance will captivate you. It possesses a beauty reminiscent of new buds glistening in the spring sunlight. While difficult to fully appreciate from images alone, the abundance of glitter characteristic of the early models is clearly visible.
Its presence exudes not flashiness, but a solemn grandeur, radiating an allure that transcends the boundaries of a guitar, making it an artistic masterpiece.
And then, the sound. Just lightly strum a chord, and you'll feel the space gently lift. The low notes resonate deeply, vibrating the body. The high notes are delicate yet possess a contour that seems to reach every corner of the space. A resonance that seems to fill from within. Those encountering this guitar for the first time will likely be astonished by its three-dimensional presence. Moreover, it clearly differs from the later Super Adamas in its expression.
The secret to this sound lies in the top, layered with carbon graphite and birch. The responsiveness of this ultra-thin top, impossible to achieve with wood alone, directly translates the nuances of your picking into sound. At the time, many artists, including Minami Kosetsu and Matsuyama Chiharu, favored the Adamas, bringing a breath of fresh air to the guitar industry.
Experience the atmosphere of the 1970s with your own hands.
