Explanation
Martin / 1972 D-41
In 1969, the D-41 was introduced, which allowed for cost reduction by toning down the decorations of the D-45. Even though we've lowered costs, the grade of the wood remains the same. By reducing the abalone shell decoration, you can enjoy the rich, resonant tone of Martin's top-of-the-line 40 series.
- Spruce grown in central Europe
German spruce is used for the top wood. This spruce is characterized by its hardness and rich overtones, and is one of the high-grade woods used in stringed instruments such as violins. The edges of the body are adorned with white celluloid, and the abalone shell purfling shines beautifully.
There is a repaired dent on the upper right of the top (above the pickguard), but it has been neatly repaired.
The rosette is also adorned with colorful abalone shell decorations.
The sides and back are made of quarter-sawn Indian rosewood. While the rosewood used changed around 1970, the beautiful striped wood used in this piece is so striking that it hardly suggests the change. One difference from the D-45 is that the abalone shell on the sides and back is omitted.
The fingerboard is made of ebony, and you can see the beautiful abalone shell hexagon inlays, which are comparable to those of the D-45. The edges of the fretboard are also adorned with white binding.
The neck is made of mahogany, and the V-shaped neck provides a comfortable fit. The neck, which is neither too thick nor too thin, provides comfortable playability.
The bridge, like the fretboard, is made of ebony and features a short saddle. The bridge pins are white.RecruitFurthermore, abalone shell can be seen in the dots.
The headstock, made of rosewood veneer, features a vertical logo (commonly known as the "vertical logo") that signifies the highest quality.RecruitFurthermore, the rounded head shape is characteristic of this period.
The tuning machine is equipped with GROVER 102 wheels, which have a patent stamp. The smooth gearing provides a comfortable tuning experience.
The D-41 is not a cheaper version of the D-45, but rather an ideal instrument for players who find the D-45 to be "too resonant." However, the rich, resonant tone that permeates the entire instrument is perhaps one of the defining characteristics of a Martin 40 series guitar.
