Explanation
A 1970 EB-0 with a slotted headstock!
The EB-0 features Gibson’s traditional SG-shaped double-cutaway body and a short scale. Several specification changes were made between its debut in 1959 and the end of production in 1979.
This model features a mahogany body, mahogany neck, and a slotted headstock. This slotted headstock, with its classic guitar-like shape, was produced for only a very short period starting in 1969.
It features a very simple design with a single humbucker pickup. The pickup is positioned near the neck end, producing the boomy bass tones characteristic of the Gibson Bass.
If the Fender Bass is closer in sound character to an electric guitar, the Gibson (especially the EB series) is characterized by a tone closer to that of an upright Bass. It produces a bass sound that envelops the space—something you wouldn’t expect from such a lightweight body.
This instrument was refretted upon arrival at our store. There are some chips in the wood on the top of the body and the back of the neck, but they do not catch on the fingers and do not interfere with playing. The neck is straight, and the playing condition is excellent.
