First-year Telecaster Bass ― 1968 "Paisley Red"!
Introduced in 1968 as Fender's first reissue model, the Telecaster Bass recreated the 1951 original Precision Bass. It faithfully follows vintage specs, including a one-piece maple neck, through-body 2-way saddles (nickel-plated from '54 onward), and single-coil pickups. Yet it also features meticulous attention to detail, such as the distinctive paddle-style tuning pegs and gray bobbins characteristic of the era.
This particular instrument is an exceptionally rare 1968 "Paisley Red" Telecaster Bass.
This legendary color was produced for only two years, 1968-1969, reflecting the era when America was swept up in the "Flower Movement" and "Psychedelic Culture."
The top and back of the body feature paisley-patterned wallpaper, over which a clear coat is applied to enhance durability.
While Telecaster Basses typically use ash wood like the Original Precision Bass, this particular instrument features a somewhat rare alder body, delivering a warmer, more viscous tone.
Includes the original pickup covers, bridge cover, finger rest, and even the original hard case from that era. With all pickups and pots remaining completely original, this is truly a collector's dream piece.
The nut and frets have been replaced. Additionally, the fingerboard and neck grip have been refinished. While there is some wear, such as paint chipping, all of this tells the story of this Bass's "lived-in history." Despite being a single-coil, it delivers surprisingly thick, core-filled mid-to-low frequencies.
It stands apart from the classic Jazz Bass or Precision Bass, showcasing the unique character only a Telecaster Bass can deliver. Particularly, the rich, vintage Fender sound from the alder body is undeniably satisfying – you'll instantly feel it's "usable" when you try it.
The Telecaster Bass in "Paisley Red" radiates a presence like no other.
Its overwhelming looks and sound, coupled with its extremely limited availability worldwide.
If you miss this moment, there's no guarantee you'll encounter it again.
