The standard color for the J-45 was sunburst, and the J-50 was offered as a natural version of the J-45. However, from 1967 to 1969, models in special colors such as ebony black and cherry red were released. The screw-on white pickguard is also a distinctive feature.
Due to their limited production numbers, these models are now collector's items. The black J-45 is particularly famous as the guitar favored by Takuro Yoshida and Kazuyoshi Saito. In recent years, many reissue models have been released and gained popularity, but the real thing is simply different.
The presence exuded by a vintage guitar that has stood the test of half a century is truly exceptional. The wear and tear on the paint and parts, the fine weather checking in the paint, the fading of the binding... It doesn't have the booming sound of the 40s and 50s, but it's characterized by a moderately tight and bright tone, and a percussive sound with a rough attack. It truly shines when used for sharp, jangly strumming. The neck grip is a narrow knuckle specification with a nut width of approximately 40mm, which is characteristic of late 1960s guitars.
Furthermore, the down-belly bridge and the screw-on white pickguard without the Gibson logo are the same specifications as the so-called "No. 1" guitar that Kazuyoshi Saito has been using since shortly after his debut.
These have become quite rare to see in recent years, so please consider them while you have the chance.
