Explanation
Gibson / 1968 Everly Brothers
【Demo Video】
The Everly Brothers signature model debuted in 1962. This instrument, based on the 16-inch body J-180, is a one-of-a-kind piece packed with features symbolic of the duo.
- Mustache Double Pickguard
The large, tortoiseshell-patterned mustache pickguards positioned on both sides of the body are an iconic specification that symbolizes the Everly model and is always adopted in reissue models. They pair perfectly with the black body color.
The 16-inch body top is crafted from spruce and finished in black. The black finish stylishly accentuates the playing scuffs, dents, and weather checking that tell the story of its evolution over time and extensive performance history.
Maple is used for the sides and back, finished in black to match the top.
The rosewood fingerboard features star inlays at the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 12th, 15th, and 17th frets. The mother-of-pearl inlays reveal different expressions depending on the viewing angle.
The neck is a 40mm narrow profile, crafted from mahogany. The slim neck profile provides a comfortable grip for modern playing.
The rosewood bridge features a pinless design, a signature characteristic of the Everly model. Combined with an adjustable saddle, it produces a crisp, punchy tone.
The headstock features Gibson's modern logo alongside a sparkling star inlay. The truss rod cover is a two-piece design engraved with "EVERLY".
KLUSON VX-501 tuning machines (commonly known as "waffle-back") are fitted. The black headstock paired with the muted nickel finish creates an irresistibly sophisticated look.
[Staff Comment: Hoshino]
Many people probably picture a black body with a large tortoiseshell-patterned moustache pickguard when they think of the Everly Brothers model. While the natural color is popular, many specifically seek out this particular specification, making it a fan favorite. It offers excellent playability and remains a reliable performer even today.
