The natural-colored Hummingbird joined the lineup in 1963. The cherry-colored sides and back create a vibrant impression. By 1965, it underwent various changes: the headstock angle was reduced from 17 degrees to 14 degrees, and the neck was changed from a regular to a narrow profile. This particular instrument reflects those specification changes, making it one of the models from a period when the design had stabilized.
—Narrow Neck with Nut Width Reduced from 42.4mm to 40.3mm
While 1965 Hummingbirds included both regular and narrow neck models, the full transition to narrow neck began in 1966. Though only about 2mm difference, holding it reveals a noticeable change in the perceived neck width.
The top is finished in natural color, with weather checking enhancing its vintage character.
The pickguard, designed by Gibson's then-designer Hartford Schneider, features butterflies fluttering around flowers and a hummingbird sipping nectar. The line art is colored with yellow ink.
The sides and back are crafted from mahogany and finished in cherry. The dense mahogany grain is clearly visible even through the finish.
The mahogany neck features a slightly thicker profile, offering a comfortable grip and feel in the hand despite its narrow width.
The rosewood upper belly bridge features a ceramic adjustable bridge. This allows for easy string height adjustment.
The headstock features Gibson's modern logo along with a crown inlay.
KLUSON DELUXE 325VP tuning machines are installed. The gold hardware enhances its luxurious appearance.
This instrument is a rare, non-cracked specimen in natural finish with a narrow neck. Its bright yet powerful tone is the charm of the Hummingbird. It also boasts an artistic pickguard design, making it a visually appealing piece.
