Explanation
A very clean and well-preserved vintage SG. A 1965 Gibson SG Standard, featuring a small pickguard.
In 1961, the Les Paul model underwent a change from its previous single-cutaway design, adopting a deep, sharply angled double-cutaway and a thin, one-piece mahogany body. Later, around 1963, Gibson terminated its contract with Les Paul, and subsequently renamed the double-cutaway model SG (short for Solid Guitar). Although the single-cutaway Les Paul later made a comeback, the SG remained and continues to be a long-selling guitar. It is one of Gibson's masterpieces, captivating numerous musicians such as Pete Townshend, Angus Young, Tony Iommi, George Harrison, and Eric Clapton.
This 1965 SG Standard features a small pickguard and small headstock, specifications up to around 1967; a one-piece mahogany neck, specifications up to around 1969; a robust neck joint that integrates the body back with the neck, as seen from around 1963 to 1967; numbered PAF pickups; and an original Maestro vibrato unit.
Vintage humbucking pickups produce a richer, more resonant sound with a more lustrous harmonic structure than standard humbuckers. With its thin, slender neck for easy playing and a body that has gained significantly more resonance through extensive use, this guitar delivers a truly rich vintage SG sound. It's also visually stunning, making it a guitar that will lift your spirits even when simply displayed.
