1964 also marks the year the pickguard specification changed from a thin, brown tortoiseshell pattern to a thicker, more reddish one.
Furthermore, while many cherry finishes have faded to an orange-like color, this instrument retains a beautiful finish with its rich red tones still clearly present.
Its tone is crisp yet distinctly Gibson, characterized by a tight, focused sound.

- The sound is clear with no buzzing or muffled notes; it plays well.
- String height at the 12th fret: 2.5mm on the 6th string side, 2.1mm on the 1st string side.
- The adjustable saddle allows for string height adjustment.
