Gibson / 1964 Dove
"Dove in natural colors"
The Dove was introduced as the top-of-the-line model with a square body.
The pickguard design varies depending on the era, giving each guitar a different look.
This Dove was manufactured in 1964, and it possesses a unique charm, which we will explore further.
- The coloring of the engraving on the pickguard
In addition to the pearl dove inlay, leaves and branches are carved into the pieces, but the ink coloring varies depending on the age and individual piece.
Comparing it to a 1963 Cherry Sunburst Dove, the branches are yellow, the leaves are green, and the flowers are red, while in a 1964 Natural Color Dove, the branches and leaves are the same color, but the flowers are a pale orange.

The body top is made of tightly grained, straight-grained spruce and finished with a natural color finish.
Rosetta has a double ring design.
The body is wrapped in 7-ply multi-color binding.

Maple is used for the sides and back, and the back plate is luxuriously crafted from a single piece of maple.
The coloring is finished in a cherry color.

The fretboard is made of rosewood, and the double parallelogram inlays enhance its luxurious appearance.

The neck is made of one piece of mahogany.
The entire neck features weather checking, adding to its vintage look.
The neck has a thin shape that fits comfortably in the hand.

The rosewood Dove features a specially designed bridge with a dove-shaped pearl inlay and is equipped with a Tune-O-Matic bridge.
Unlike Tune-O-Matic pickups found on Les Pauls and SGs, the saddles are raised and lowered using slotted screws, similar to ADJ pickups.

In addition to Gibson's modern logo, the headstock features a crown inlay that shines brightly in the center.
The bell-shaped truss rod cover has a black frame, a white center, and the word "Dove" is inscribed on it.

The tuning machine is a KLUSON MH-500VX (commonly known as the Waffleback).
Top-of-the-line models in the series, such as the Les Paul Custom and J-200.RecruitThe presence of these tuning pegs further confirms that this instrument is indeed the top-of-the-line model with a square shoulder body.

This unit features an additional contact microphone mounted on the bridge plate.

This guitar, with its natural-colored top and vibrant cherry finish, is beautifully complemented by the tortoiseshell-patterned pickguard.
You're sure to be captivated by the bright and powerful sound of Dove.
