Gibson / 1964 Dove
"Natural-colored Dove"
The Dove debuted as the top-tier model in the Square Body series.
The pickguard design varies by year, giving each instrument a distinct look.
This particular Dove was crafted in 1964, and it possesses unique charms all its own. Let's explore those charms.
ーThe Coloring of the Pickguard Carvings
In addition to the pearl dove inlay, leaves and branches are carved, but the coloring of the ink varies depending on the year and individual instrument.
Comparing it to a 1963 cherry sunburst Dove, the branches are yellow, the leaves are green, and the flowers are red, while on a 1964 natural-colored Dove, the branches and leaves are colored the same, but the flowers are a pale orange.

The body top is made of tight-grained spruce and finished in a natural color.
The rosette is a double ring.
The body is surrounded by 7P multi-color binding.

Maple is used for the sides and back, with the back panel luxuriously crafted from a single piece of maple.
The coloring is finished in cherry.

The fingerboard is rosewood, enhanced by a luxurious double parallelogram inlay.

The neck is crafted from one-piece mahogany.
Weathercheck inlays run along the entire neck, adding vintage character.
The neck features a slim profile for comfortable playability.

The rosewood Dove-exclusive bridge design features a pearl dove inlay and incorporates a Tune-O-Matic system.
Unlike the Tune-O-Matic found on Les Pauls or SGs, this system uses Allen screws to adjust the saddle height, similar to the ADJ system.

The headstock features Gibson's modern logo, with a crown inlay shining at its center.
The bell-shaped truss rod cover has a black frame, a white center, and the word "Dove" inscribed.

It features KLUSON MH-500VX tuning machines (commonly known as Waffle-Back).
These are the same pegs used on top-tier models like the Les Paul Custom and J-200 series, reaffirming this guitar's status as the top model in the square-shoulder body lineup.

This instrument additionally incorporates a contact pickup mounted on the bridge plate.

Finished in a vibrant cherry over a natural-colored top, the tortoiseshell pickguard design stands out beautifully.
You'll undoubtedly be captivated by the Dove's bright and bold resonance.
