Gibson / 1961 J-45
In the 1950s, the American music scene was undergoing a major shift from folk to rock 'n' roll. Amid
this trend, the J-45 also evolved, and around 1960, it began to feature a striking cherry sunburst finish in place of the traditional sunburst.
The checking caused by the passage of time becomes more pronounced depending on the viewing angle, giving the guitar a look that shimmers like the glow of the setting sun reflecting off the ocean.
The neck feels so good in your hands that the moment you pick it up, you might even get the illusion that you can catch a whiff of the 1960s atmosphere captured within the instrument.

The slim neck, characteristic of the early 1960s, naturally guides the player’s finger movements, delivering a stress-free touch whether playing arpeggios or strumming.
The 42.5mm nut width also provides a secure grip—a key feature for guitarists seeking the authentic feel of that era.
It offers a pleasant sense of spaciousness, distinct from the narrow-neck designs introduced after 1965.
The upper belly bridge is equipped with a ceramic adjustable saddle.
Even with a light pluck, it produces a sound of exquisite balance—a blend of the “dry resonance” and “sparkling articulation” characteristic of that era. Play it
hard, and you’ll hear a driving tone; play it softly, and you’ll experience a melancholic tone.
This is truly the essence of the ’60s J-45.
