—A D-28 with specifications from before 1964
The ebony downberry bridge is fitted with a long saddle.
This specification was used from around 1934 to 1964, after which it was changed to a short saddle.
Although the bridge has been replaced, the installation and gluing were done very neatly.
The maple bridge plate has been reinforced with matching maple wood due to wear around the strap pin holes caused by years of playing.
Since this is a component that affects both tuning and tone, you can see from the photos that the repair was carried out with great care.
The tortoiseshell-patterned pickguard features a reddish hue.
This design was used until around 1965, after which it was replaced with a black version.
The top is made of spruce and features multicolored purfling with ivoroid binding.
The sides and back are made of Brazilian rosewood with beautiful striped grain, and, like the top binding, they feature ivory-like binding.
The fingerboard is made of ebony and features mother-of-pearl position marks.
A distinctive feature is that the dots become smaller as they approach the higher frets.
The neck is made of mahogany and features a thick V-shaped profile. The
neck is finished with a clear lacquer coat.
A strap pin has been added to the heel.
The headstock, made of Brazilian rosewood veneer, has a rounded shape, and the headstock top is finished with over-lacquer extending toward the sides.
It is equipped with Grover 102 tuning machines bearing the “PAT” engraving.
The back of the headstock is also finished with over-lacquer.

The wide dynamic range and the way the sound spreads out give this guitar a charm distinct from other D-28s—it really makes you realize just how good it can sound when it’s been carefully restored.
This is a special instrument that retains specifications from the mid-1960s.

- A crack repair is visible on the upper left corner of the
top. - There is paint peeling on the right side of the
body (at the waist).
- Signs of a neck reset are visible.
- The bridge has been replaced.
- The string holes in the bridge plate have been reinforced.
- The saddle has been replaced with an ivory one.
- The neck and headstock (including the sides), excluding the fingerboard, have been relacquered.
- A strap pin has been added to the neck heel.
[Playing Condition]
- Plays well with no muffled tones or buzzing.
- String action at the 12th fret: 2.7 mm on the 6th string side, 2.1 mm
on the 1st string side. - Saddle height: approx. 2.0 mm
