Gibson / 1957 CF-100E
"The model that first featured the P-90 pickup, predecessor to the J-160E"
The CF-100E was manufactured for approximately 8 years from 1951 to 1959.
It was a model featuring an electric guitar pickup mounted on a small body, similar to the LG-1.
This model was initially released in response to user requests for an acoustic guitar that could be played loudly in larger venues, and it later evolved into the J-160E.
- Small-body models with P-90 pickups
The P-90 pickup mounted above the soundhole amplifies the sound, allowing the tone to fill even large venues.
Unlike the piezo-equipped Electric Acoustic models of today, this instrument possesses its own unique charm.

The top features spruce with a thickness of approximately 3mm.
The sharp-angled front cutaway is a defining characteristic of the CF-100.
It employs a non-scalloped X-bracing pattern.
This later changed to ladder bracing on the J-160E.

Two controls for adjusting volume and tone are located at the lower right of the body top.

A tortoiseshell-pattern pickguard is used, differing from the CF-100.

Mahogany is used for the sides and back.
Looking at the inside of the back from the side reveals crack prevention measures, confirming it is solid wood.

The fingerboard is rosewood with dish-shaped marker inlays.

The mahogany neck is neither too thick nor too thin, with a rounded neck grip that provides a comfortable hold.

The headstock features a pearl modern logo and crown inlay.
Although it bears the GIBSON logo, it is positioned approximately 15mm lower than the apex of the 'b'.
Since the silk-screen logo position on a 1957 J-45 is around 10mm, it can be inferred that the logo position during this period varied depending on the material.

The tuning machines are a single-line triple-row type bearing the KULUSON DELUXE engraving.
The pegs have been replaced with ones close to the originals.
This replacement was confirmed due to the original pegs becoming stiff.

Despite its compact size, it delivers solid bass and a cohesive, projecting sound.
When amplified, it produces a perfectly balanced tone that's sweet yet bright.
Furthermore, a CF-100E without cracks or noticeable scratches is quite rare.
We highly recommend taking this opportunity to try it out.
