We have received a legendary acoustic archtop guitar from Epiphone’s original New York era.
This is the “Deluxe,” a luxury model second only to the “Emperor.”

Although this model was originally designed with a body width of 17 3/8 inches—slightly narrower than the “Emperor”—
this particular instrument is a special example crafted with the same 18 1/2-inch body width as the “Emperor.”
A glance at the 1953 catalog reveals that this
size was part of the lineup, leading us to believe this specification was available for only a very brief period in the early 1950s.

This guitar showcases the exceptional craftsmanship of New York artisans who stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Gibson in the history of archtop guitars. The
hand-carved body features spruce that shimmers in a blond hue and maple with beautiful figurework. The
antique-style gold hardware, combined with the pickguard—which, although replaced, features a striking pearlescent pattern—creates a luxurious look befitting the “Deluxe” name.

The fingerboard is crafted from carefully selected rosewood, beautifully complemented by exquisite mother-of-pearl inlays.
The Epsilon tuners, distinguished by the “E” logo on the headstock, are highly sought-after, high-end components—so rare that they were even used at the Kalamazoo factory following Gibson’s acquisition.

Its sound, described as “harp-like,” possesses a
lustrous, sparkling brilliance, accompanied by deep, immersive bass tones. It’s a sound that
truly embodies the essence of luxury.

There is no doubt that it served as a major inspiration to Martin and Gibson in the world of acoustic guitars. This is a luxury model from that era. Its elegant and beautiful appearance, combined with a deep tone rich in natural reverb, is truly outstanding.

*Please note that as this is a used/vintage item, the information provided is based on our inspection and is limited to what we were able to determine.
- There were three cracks on the top and two on the back of the body, but they have been repaired with adhesive at our shop and do not affect playability.
- Pickguard replaced
- Tuning machine screws replaced
- Rosewood binding on the fingerboard has
been replaced/repaired starting from the 15th fret on the 1st string side

[Playing Condition]
- String action at the 12th fret: 2.2 mm on the 6th string side, 1.8 mm on the 1st string side
- Since the saddle is already set at its lowest position, adjusting the neck angle would be necessary to lower the string action further.
The neck features a soft V-shape with a moderate thickness. Even in its current state, it offers a soft touch and a stress-free playing experience. Given that it doesn’t feel its age—despite being over 70 years old—its playing condition is excellent.
