"KING OF THE FLAT-TOPS" 1940 Original SJ-200
Gibson / 1940 SJ-200
Known as the "King of Flat-Tops," the J-200 continues to reign as Gibson's flagship model.
It all began in 1937 when a jumbo-sized guitar was created through a collaboration between Ray Whitley, a popular actor and singer in Western films, and Gibson. This led to the introduction of the SUPER JUMBO "200" in 1938.
The king of acoustic guitars, beloved by countless musicians such as Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, George Harrison (The Beatles), Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), Pete Townshend (The Who), Emmylou Harris, The Edge (U2), and Ron Wood (Rolling Stones), has graced legendary stages.
The one we have in stock this time is the original 1940 SJ-200.
Only 96 original SJ-200s were manufactured between 1938 and 1941, making them an extremely rare model, comparable to the 91 pre-war D-45s produced.

This particular instrument features rosewood sides and back, characteristic of pre-war specifications, and also boasts an ebony mustache bridge with individually adjustable saddles for each string.

Upon closer inspection, the pickguard features a pattern from the late 1950s, and the bracing structure on the body top also suggests that it was retopped at the factory in the 1950s.
Nowadays, even the J-200 from the 1950s is a valuable vintage item.
This combination, which is nearly impossible in modern times, should give you an idea of just how special and luxurious this particular piece is.

The headstock is adorned with a script logo and a crown inlay.
The back of the headstock, adorned with a stinger design, is fitted with Kluson Sealfast tuners featuring distinctive tuning peg buttons.

The most striking feature is the metal fittings for securing the strap pins, attached to the headstock and body end. These are also original pre-war SJ-200 specifications, and you can really appreciate the charm of this guitar from these vintage parts.

The ultimate in vintage, obtainable only by a select few.
In terms of sound, this is a fantastic guitar that sets itself apart from the re-released J-200, offering an incredible volume that you can truly experience.
