Nostalgia / N2 The59 VS Ceramic Saddle Custom
[Staff Comment: Inoue]

This is a limited edition model of the "Nostalgia N-2," which was thoroughly researched and recreated based on the specifications of a 1959 J-45.
Even from our perspective as a shop that handles vintage Gibsons on a daily basis, this model clearly demonstrates a meticulous attention to its construction. From the "'59 Neck Profile" with its exquisite thickness derived from CAD data, to the adjustable saddle featuring the large studs characteristic of the 1956–59 period, and even the use of animal glue (nikawa) throughout the entire manufacturing process—this instrument is a testament to the deep respect for the original and the relentless pursuit of authenticity.
This model features a “ceramic saddle” (Recruit). It’s reportedly a limited edition of only 14 pieces.
Since I have this opportunity, I’d like to share my honest impressions.
The finish is extremely thin, leaving the wood grain and texture fully exposed—so much so that even the unevenness of the wood’s pores is clearly visible.
While the finish certainly feels thin and seems to have adhered closely to the wood as it dried, I feel the texture is slightly different from that of a true vintage instrument.
However, since it’s still quite close to the New condition, I feel there’s potential as the finish will continue to wear off and evolve with the player’s use.
And I’m genuinely impressed by the recreation of the ’59-spec ceramic saddle.
It’s a truly strange sensation to experience that hard, hollow nuance on a Japanese-made guitar.
From a critical perspective, it falls within the realm of domestic guitars, with a sound that is straightforward and uniform.
Even so, you can fully experience the low-end punch and crisp attack.
Above all, there is no doubt that this is an instrument packed with respect for vintage models and a spirit of exploration.
Plus, since the cost is significantly lower than the original,
"I can’t afford a vintage guitar, but I want to go all out for that vintage feel and really play it hard"
"I can’t afford the original, but I’ve always admired this spec"
it’s the perfect choice.
