The LEAD/SOLO Silver Plate is the first B♭ trumpet with a silver-plated finish that LOTUS has launched on a full-scale basis. While previous LOTUS models—primarily low brass instruments—have emphasized rich overtones and tonal variations as their main appeal, this model offers a sound closer to that of a standard trumpet. It maintains the pitch stability and ease of playing characteristic of LOTUS, while featuring a tone that blends naturally within a section.Silver plating is one of the official finishes available for the LEAD/SOLO series.
The bell is a 140-millimeter, single-piece yellow brass bell. The medium-large taper—which widens significantly toward the rear of the bell—produces a wider and fuller resonance than typical trumpets, while the moderate narrowing of the taper near the mouthpiece ensures a clear tonal center.The silver-plated finish adds definition and brilliance, making it easy to blend with trumpets from other manufacturers. Even so, it doesn’t lose the distinctive LOTUS presence that cuts through clearly during forte passages.
Ryan Kaiser, lead trumpeter of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, epitomizes this character.He participated in the JLCO’s March 2026 Japan tour—their first in approximately 20 years—and showcased his overwhelming lead playing, anchoring the big band. His performance using this Silver Plate model perfectly embodied the LEAD/SOLO’s design philosophy: the ability to “blend with the ensemble” while also “cutting through instantly when needed.”
Rather than simply porting the flagship model’s unique specifications—such as the MAW valve—the LEAD/SOLO established its own distinct identity by completely rethinking everything from the standard valves and manufacturing process to the finish. With the included brass and bronze tuning slides, the sound can be adjusted to range from bright and tight to warm and rich. It’s not about wanting a “unique LOTUS,” but rather a “LOTUS that can be naturally incorporated into your everyday performances.” The Silver Plate is the perfect fit for precisely those players.
