Gibson / 1967 J-45 Cherry Red
The "J-45" is a well-known and popular model among Gibson acoustic guitars. Thanks to its use by artists such as Bob Dylan and Jackson Browne, its crisp yet rich and full-bodied sound makes it a versatile guitar suitable for a wide range of genres, from strummed folk songs to band performances.
—The J-45 in Red
The J-45, introduced in 1942, was originally released with a Sunburst finish, but in 1961, the Cherry Sunburst model debuted.
Then, from 1967 to 1969, J-45s featuring finishes known as “custom colors” were introduced.
This particular model is one of those, a 16-inch round-shouldered guitar finished in a bright red color known as "Cherry Red."

The approximately 1.5mm-thick white large pickguard is secured with four screws, a characteristic feature of pickguards found on rare colors.

The mahogany sides and back are also finished in Cherry Red to match the top’s color, resulting in a beautiful overall finish.

The rosewood fingerboard features dot position marks.
Another key feature is the narrow neck with a 40mm nut width.
This neck is easy to play, even for modern music styles that involve a "shake-hand" grip or frequent hard chord changes.
As for the color of the position marks on the sides of the fingerboard, the fact that the rest of the guitar is finished in cherry gives the dots a reddish hue.

The neck is made of mahogany and finished in cherry.
Like the sides and back, the see-through finish allows the mahogany grain to show through, giving it a warm, natural feel.

The rosewood upper belly bridge is fitted with an adjustable saddle, and instead of ceramic, wood is used for the Recruit.
This produces a sound that is rich and crisp yet cohesive and resonant.

The headstock features a gold silk-screened Gibson Modern logo.
The bell-shaped truss rod cover is made of 1P.

The tuning machines are equipped with a set of three Kluson pegs.
The peg shaft on the 4th string is bent, but tuning is still possible without issue.
Additionally, a distinctive feature of this instrument is the "2" stamp on the back of the headstock.
This suggests that the instrument may have been refinished at the factory.
As evidence of this, if you look at the finish on the neck, the back of the headstock has a finish thin enough to reveal the mahogany grain, whereas the neck has a finish thick enough to hide the grain.

While Sunburst and Cherry Sunburst are popular colors for the J-45, this Cherry Red model possesses a charm not found in the former colors.
