This is a pedal-type vintage fuzz + phaser unit with an impressive, rugged casing that is typical of Maestro!
You can control the effect of the phaser by moving the pedal up and down. The fuzz (phase) can be turned on and off with a switch, producing a very unique and impactful fuzz sound. When it's off, it becomes a volume pedal. As the sweep goes down, modulation is added to the phase sound. The fuzz + phase sound is incredible, and it's well known that it was used by Larry Graham and others. Incidentally, there is also the FP-2, which is the same model. While the appearance is almost the same, the internal circuit board is different. The FP-1 is equipped with three trims on the internal circuit board, allowing you to fine-tune the fuzz/phaser sound. The FP-2 does not allow for fine adjustments, but it has a comfortable, harsh sound from the start, while the FP-1 is a rough fuzz, and you can adjust the trim to your liking. The appeal of this watch is that it can be adjusted. Judging from the pot date, this watch was manufactured around 1971.
