Specifications
large bell, delivering a rich, full-bodied sound and a playing feel that is easy to handle across all genres. Alongside the 4-valve 156 model once favored by Mr. Nakaryakov, this series has long been a popular Courtois model supported by many players.
The sound produced by the large bell is thick and full-bodied. It possesses the warmth unique to rose brass bells, offering a sense of core strength even within its softness. Not only does the sound have depth, but the contour of the notes is also well-defined, making this an instrument suitable for a wide range of settings, including solos, ensembles, wind bands, and jazz.
Although the bell diameter is on the larger side, the throat is designed to be relatively tight, and the valve bore measures 10.5 mm. It rarely feels like it draws more air than necessary, and the pitch in the upper register is easy to control. It offers the rich resonance typical of a large bell while maintaining a balanced, easy-to-control sound.
The Courtois 154R combines a refined, French-style tone with modern practicality. We recommend this instrument to players who seek a soft, rich flugelhorn tone while also prioritizing ease of play.
