The rich P-90 tone resonates throughout this 1964 Gibson SG Special
This 1964 model represents the true essence of the SG Special, featuring a deeply cut double cutaway, a slim and lightweight mahogany body, and the intense character synonymous with Gibson.
Originally introduced as a Les Paul model in 1961, this design was renamed the SG (Solid Guitar) following the termination of Les Paul's contract in 1963. Since then, the SG has grown into a long-selling model, beloved as a Gibson staple to this day.
It has been chosen by legendary musicians across generations, including Pete Townshend, Angus Young, Tony Iommi, George Harrison, and Eric Clapton.
This 1964 vintage SG features the distinctive small pickguard/small headstock (specification used until around 1967),a mahogany one-piece neck (until around 1969), a neck joint that integrated seamlessly with the body (1963-1967), a 17-degree headstock angle and wide neck (until around 1964), a compensated bridge (until around 1965), and two original P-90 pickups.
Particularly noteworthy is the exceptionally thick single-coil tone produced by the vintage P-90 pickups. Richer and more lustrous than typical single-coils, with a powerful presence that pushes forward, this is truly the guitar you'd want to mention when discussing Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath.
Furthermore, the body, which has resonated even more through years of live playing, and the slim neck that feels like it's glued to your hand are also appealing. This is a guitar that truly resonates, allowing you to experience the true value of a vintage SG.
