Tips for setting up floating

Even after tuning, the tuning goes out of whack...
I want to do arm raises, but I can't...
First of all, what exactly is floating??? etc.

The Stratocaster is the most classic model, but if it's not properly adjusted, the tremolo won't work effectively.

There are various types of bridges, but in this lesson, we will be able to adjust types A and B.

Floating means floating! In other words, floating means the bridge is floating away from the body.
To create a floating state, the tension of the strings and the springs on the back of the body are used to achieve balance.
This allows you to raise the tonearm (increase the pitch).

When adjusting the floating mechanism, the most crucial part is the spring on the back of the body.♪This spring is used to balance the tension of the strings.
The number of springs is generally three.

Step 1: Determine the string height and temporarily fix the bridge to the body.

When the bridge does not lift away from the body after tuning, this is called a "flat-fitting" state. Tighten the two screws on the back of the body so that the bridge remains attached to the body even when tuning. This state is our starting point.

Step 2: Tune the guitar and slightly raise the bridge.

Loosen the screw on the back of the body by about one turn. The spring will loosen, and the tuning will drop slightly. (If it doesn't drop, loosen the screw further.) When you tune again, the bridge will gradually lift up.

Using a high-precision tuner ensures accurate tuning!

Step 3: Stabilize the float to approximately 3mm.

By repeatedly loosening the screws, tuning, loosening the screws, and tuning, you can create a state where the bridge is floating about 3mm. Once the tuning is stable, the floating adjustment is complete.

By using five springs, the tension on each individual spring is weak. The springs vibrate more freely due to the string vibrations, resulting in the most brilliant sound.

A man's setup with all five springs tightened to their limit, ensuring absolutely no floating. Perfectly fitted is best!!
