KAY GUITAR, a long-established American manufacturer . Since the dawn of the electric guitar era, they’ve produced a wide variety of guitars, manufacturing numerous models—primarily hollow-body guitars—throughout the 1950s and 1960s. They’re also famous for their Bass, which were famously played by Paul McCartney.
This model is the double-cutaway K5970V, a reissue from the 2010s. It faithfully reproduces the look of the originals manufactured in the 1960s. The headstock shape has been slightly downscaled, and a thinner neck Recruit to ensure stable playability.
Recruit a 31-inch scale length, which is slightly longer than a standard short scale. With its semi-hollow body and rosewood bridge, it has a distinctly acoustic feel; however, its sound is woody yet well-defined, characterized by a clear tone without any muddiness. The original blade pickup has modest output but delivers solid low-end response; it gives the impression of a warm tone that still allows Bass to cut through and be heard clearly within an ensemble.
Although the wooden bridge doesn’t allow for fine adjustments, it’s set up with a string height of 2 mm or less, making this a model with outstanding playability.
It’s perfect for Paul McCartney-style phrasing and would also shine in jazz or acoustic bands!
