Explanation
A rare specimen from the very end of the 1960s. As you can see, it’s a well-played instrument.
The Jazz Bass remains a standard among bassists worldwide. Even now, more than 60 years after its debut in 1960, it continues to be loved by many players without having changed its style significantly.
This particular instrument was manufactured in 1969 and features the CBS logo, neck binding, and block position markers. The bridge saddle is the type from late 1968, featuring a single string groove in the center of the Recruit stainless steel saddle. Although the body template was updated around 1969–70 and the position of the rear pickup was moved closer to the bridge, this instrument retains the “1960s-spec” pickup positions from before the change. Built in 1969, this is a guitar that strongly retains the specifications of the very “late 1960s.”
The sound is impressive, featuring a very well-balanced tone with a strong, resilient midrange and good body, yet also possessing quick response. You can clearly hear a sound that is “modern-leaning while retaining the 1960s sound”—a characteristic of the period from 1966 (the CBS era) until 1970, when the position of the rear pickup changed. It features the fast attack characteristic of vintage basses, making it a highly versatile vintage sound.
Although there are numerous dents on the neck, there is no serious damage to the wood. Additionally, the body shows extensive paint peeling on both the front and back; the areas without paint have likely been sanded down, giving them a smooth, gritty texture.
The guitar has been refretted, and the neck condition and electronics are in good working order, ensuring excellent playability.
We deliberately chose not to refinish it at our shop. You can enjoy its unique character as is, or refinish it in your favorite color. Please come and get your hands on this vintage Bass that you can make your own.
