In 1974, YAMAHA announced its "L Series" lineup, emphasizing a premium orientation. The first model released was the "L-31". This model elevated the FG-2000 to a luxury level, leading directly to the Custom series announced in 1975. The "L" in the series name stands for "Luxury," and it featured the highest-grade models among the three series then available: FG, N, and L. Furthermore, the four models introduced in the L Series lineup starting in 1975 were given the grandiose nickname "Four Heavenly Kings." Each of these four models boasts a distinctive appearance and eye-catching design.
This time, we introduce the 1977 L-52 CUSTOM Gibson's Everly Brothers-inspired jet-black jumbo body. The body width is approximately 435mm, with a body depth just under 120mm, making it quite a wide body. Paul Simon and John Lennon's instruments were custom-ordered as the CJ-52, the successor to the L-52, and both seemed to fall in love with its sound.
The sound impression features a crisp, maple-like character combined with YAMAHA's signature sound pressure. With individual saddles for each string like a TOM, it offers excellent string separation. Yet, the sound is never thin; the body vibrates solidly, delivering a rich, deep low end. Among YAMAHA's acoustic guitars, which are well-suited for jazz and blues like archtops, this model possesses a truly unique tone.
[Condition] The neck and wood components have been inspected and adjusted by an acoustic guitar specialist, with all areas in excellent condition. The neck is straightened with no buzz or dead spots. The 12th fret string height is set to 2.5mm on the 6th string and 2mm on the 1st string for comfortable playability.
The neck shows finish chipping from capo use, and the body has numerous buckle marks.
