Explanation
『 : It all began here.』 ― The origin of Monette trumpets: Chicago Monette.
[Overview] Monette B♭ trumpet, Chicago Standard(※). 127mm double-walled yellow brass bell. Low brass finish (unlacquered). Instrument weight: 1173 grams. 1 Made in 1984. ※This is a common name. There is no official designation.
[Condition] Bore cleaned, soft parts replaced, fully adjusted and serviced.
[Features] This instrument is one of the earliest examples of the so-called "Chicago Monnet" series, crafted in 1984 when David Monnet established his workshop in Chicago. The defining characteristics that would later shape the modern Monette trumpet—unlimited sound pressure and vast dynamic range, a dark yet airy mid-low register with a solid core that remains intact even during wide dynamic swings, and a fat, open sound in the high register that avoids excessive focus—are already clearly evident here.On the other hand, a major appeal of the Chicago Monnet is its neutral character, less picky about players or styles than current models. It blends naturally within an ensemble while asserting a distinct presence when needed. This excellent balance stands out.
Several years ago, Monnet announced the new MB-111 model, featuring a serial number extremely close to this instrument, which generated significant buzz. This also serves as proof that players' passionate love for the Chicago Monnet remains unwavering to this day.
Monette Chicago-era saxophones were produced in limited numbers, making them increasingly rare on the market each year. Instruments like this one, which perfectly balance practical playability with high pre-vintage value, are especially scarce. This is a piece where you can fully savor the "essence of Monette" in both its sound and feel.
