Fender Japan's first-year PrecisionBass!
Fender Japan was established in 1982. Following a change in distributors, the Fender Japan name ceased to exist in 2015. Since then, the original Fender has continued manufacturing high-quality instruments as the MIJ (Made In Japan) series. However, Fender Japan instruments are highly regarded as Japan Vintage and remain popular both domestically and internationally.
This particular instrument is a highly sought-after, early 1982 model from the very beginning of Fender Japan.
The PB62 recreates the charm of vintage Fender while delivering the deep bass tones unique to the Precision. This particular instrument is missing its original joint plate, so the serial number is unknown, but the neck date is 1982. The replacement joint plate is a brass plate that was a purchaser's bonus at the time of release. (The name engraving has been removed.) There is a chip in the wood on the fretboard side of the 4th string between the nut and the 1st fret. However, its position makes it unlikely to significantly affect playability.
The nut width itself is a standard PB size, but it features a thinner grip suited for Japanese players, offering high playability. Sound-wise, it has a distinct brightness different from USA-made models, characterized by a crisp, well-defined tone!
